Kzoo Film Fest Weekend:
March 3 & 4, 2017
NxMW presents “Buzzard”
Doors open at 8:00 pm, film starts at 8:30 pm with no assigned seats. At 10:10 pm, Writer/Director Joel Potrykus speaks and answers audience questions.
Pre-event tickets cost $3 and can be purchased at https://nxmw-buzzard.eventbrite.com. At the door, tickets will be $5 cash.
Buzzard Film Description: Paranoia forces small-time scam artist Marty to flee his hometown and hide out in a dangerous Detroit. With nothing but a pocket full of bogus checks, his Power Glove, and a bad temper, the horror metal slacker lashes out.
Buzzard (2014) (SXSW) is the final installment in Joel Potrykus’ Animal Trilogy, following the feature film Ape (2012) (winner of Best Emerging Director, Locarno Film Festival) and the super 8 short Coyote (2010). Along with production, Potrykus teaches screenwriting at Grand Valley State University and writes for an annual film criticism publication.
North By Midwest Micro-Budget Film Festival
On Saturday, March 4, 2017, NxMW offers FREE film screening and opportunities to meet the filmmakers. 48 films will be screened at the Epic Center (359 S. Kalamazoo Mall, 2nd Floor, Kalamazoo, MI) in downtown Kalamazoo. Films will start at 12:00 pm Noon and continue until the awards ceremony at 7:15 pm.

Categories are: 1) Long Feature, 2) Short Feature, 3) Documentary/Profile, 4) Animation and 5) MicroCam.
At the end of the day, an award ceremony will be held, with prizes in each category: 1st Place, $1,000; 2nd Place, $500; 3rd Place; $100. Also, a $500 award, presented by the Kalamazoo Film Society for the Best Local film.
14th Annual Teen Filmmaker Festival
In collaboration with the Kalamazoo Public Library, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and Campaign Pictures, Public Media Network and NxMW are hosting the 14th Annual Teen Filmmaker Festival – the best film festival for teens in Michigan! Films start at 12:00 pm noon on March 4, 2017, at Chenery Auditorium (714 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI).
Film finalists will be screened at this special event open to movie fans of all ages. Enjoy plenty of movie snacks and be sure to cast your vote for the People’s Choice award!
Pre-Festival Chat with Teen Filmmakers
Meet Teen Filmmaker Festival participants past and present and hear them talk about their filmmaking and festival experiences. Special guests: Dorian Murphy, Hannah Lane-Davies, Nathan Ginter, and Nick Ranger. Chat starts at 10 am on March 4, 2017 and is located at Kalamazoo Valley Community College: Anna Whitten Hall, Room 209. More information can be found on Facebook.
